Pride Flag Raising & Keynote Speaker

CITY HALL, HAVERHILL MA
We’re kicking off Haverhill Pride in style at the Haverhill City Hall! Join us for our third annual flag raising and hear from city officials like Mayor Melina Barrett and City Councilor Tom Sullivan about the importance of Pride in Haverhill.
Keynote speaker Alexandra Chandler, the first openly transgender candidate to run for Congress from Massachusetts, will step to the podium. Alexandra brings with her more than a decade of LGBTQIA+ advocacy experience, and currently works in voting rights advocacy and national security policy. She is a graduate of Brown University and Brooklyn Law School.
Pride Parade
1:00 PM - 1:30 PM
DOWNTOWN, HAVERHILL MA
Then, we’ll begin our Pride Parade. Participants will assemble at G.A.R. Park, embarking down Bailey Boulevard, turning onto Emerson Street, marching down Washington Street, turning down Railroad Square to end at Wingate St.
Spectators are invited to set up anywhere along the route in their brightest and boldest colors.
Resource Fair
1:30 PM - 6:00 PM
WINGATE ST, HAVERHILL MA
Parade attendees will disassemble at Wingate Street, where more than 20 local organizations, non-profits, and vendors including: American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, Haverhill Public Library, YWCA -Haverhill, UU Church of Haverhill, HealthQ, LGBTQ Senior Social Support, Haverhill Education Foundation, Ruth’s House, and more!

Meanwhile, discover Haverhill’s downtown businesses, forgotten alleyways, and underutilized spaces with an artist market, Plein air painting, poetry, exhibitions, demonstrations, and music performances! The Haverhill Art Walk features local artists and lots of family-friendly activities!

Yes! The parade spans 0.7 miles, taking place in the street as a moving parade. The route is ADA compliant with paved sidewalks, where spectators are invited to watch.
There are restrooms available at the start of the parade in City Hall, accessible by stairs or elevator access, and portable restrooms at the end of the route, where the Pride Resource Fair and Art Walk festivities will be held.
Public seating is available in Washington Square.

Yes! Everyone is invited to this all-ages event! There is an afternoon of free, family friendly activities to follow the Parade that we hope you'll stick around to enjoy!

This year, we’re reminding everyone that Pride is more than a celebration - it’s a movement.
We’re inviting participants to lace up their boots and join us not just on the day of the celebration, but every other day of the year in support of our queer, trans, and gender-diverse community members.

We expect all of our attendees to be respectful of each other, our city, and the people with whom we share the downtown space.
Here are some things to keep in mind:
Charge your phone before the event
Plan a buddy system - try setting up a buddy check before you leave your group or designate a location where you can meet if you become separated
Check the forecast in advance and dress with weather in mind
Wear comfortable shoes that are easy to walk in
Park only in designated parking areas
Stay out of the street and behind any barricades during the parade

Following the parade we will have a Resource Fair on Wingate St with tables manned by local orgs and nonprofits.
At 2 PM, we’ll start our Drag Queen Pub Stroll, with a different performer at a different restaurant every 30 minutes.
Also starting at 2 PM, there is a full day of Haverhill Art Walk programming, with art, music and performances downtown and along the river!
Looking to celebrate into the evening? Haverhill Pride’s Queen Slipper Sponsor, Wicked Axe New England, will be hosting the un-official after party with food, drinks, and axe throwing!

Our event will happen in rain or shine! There is no rain date planned, so come prepared for all weather conditions!

Yes! There are wonderful options for food at a variety of restaurants in downtown Haverhill. We hope to also have food truck options on Wingate St.

There are restrooms available at the start of the parade in City Hall and portapotties will be located at the end of the route near the Pride Resource Fair and Art Walk.

We do encourage groups and orgs to register to join in the parade, individuals not affiliated with a group who would like to walk are welcome join in at the end of the parade. If you decide to jump in at the end of the parade, no registration is required.

Chairs are permitted along the parade route and on lesser pedestrian traffic areas, including Main and Merrimack streets. There is ample space along the route and plenty of space for everyone to get a spot!

Pets are welcome and encouraged to dress up! Please follow local leash laws and ensure your pet is respectful to people and animals with whom they share the space.

Yes, parking will be free the day of the celebration including: city lots, street parking, and the MEVA bus parking lot. We are currently working on securing the Granite Street parking lot as well, so stay tuned for updates!

MEVA provides free transportation via their bus system. You can visit their website to find routes convenient for you!
Additionally, the Haverhill Station on the commuter rail is conveniently located at the end of the parade route, where we will have our Resource Fair and the Drag Queen Pub Stroll begins.
Some bus routes/times may be altered to accommodate for the parade.

The parade route is a public space. We expect attendees to follow applicable laws and ordinances. Haverhill Pride is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.

We are working closely with the Haverhill Police Department, including the LGBTQ+ Liaison Unit to ensure a safe and inclusive environment. Our volunteers will also receive marshaling training, keeping the event secure and welcoming for all
